Dutch Grave (D.W. BECKING)

A grave from Dutch colonial era dated 1851 and engraved "DW Becking" is found in Sungai Selan Village. It is located behind Police Lodge "Polsek" Sungai Selan in Sungai Selan Subdistrict, 65 km away from Koba, the capital of Central bangka regency.

DW Becking was an infantry major appointed by Dutch Colonial government to lead the fight against Depati Amir, the local leader. The battles lasted from 1848 to 1851. DW Becking died around a month after Depati Amir had been exiled to Kupang in Sulawesi.
